How to Get on Page One of Google

posted by Ted on April 7, 2012

I get asked all the time – how do I get my site to the top ranking on Google? If there was an easy and quick solution – we’d all be doing it – and we’d all be at the top page of Google.  But, it doesn’t work that way. It takes knowing what works – and the commitment (plus time and effort) to get the results.

We all want top rankings from Google. Why? As people online are increasingly using the Internet (and most of the time Google) to search for information or resources – top ranked websites in the Google search results are getting the most clicks. How much more traffic and visibility do the top ranking websites get in the results?

Different Pages Required for an Online Business

posted by Ted on April 6, 2012

If you have an internet based business website are you aware that you should have two different types of pages for your site? The two types of pages are a sales page and a content page, or if you prefer you could call them squeeze or landing pages and article pages.

In case you are not sure what the difference is between these two types of pages here is a quick explanation:

1. The sole purpose of a landing or sales page is to either sell a product get someone to opt in to your mailing list or preferably both of these options. This page needs to be dedicated strictly to achieving either or both of these aims and should not have anything else on it that is likely to distract your visitor from its purpose.

Long Tail Keywords for Niche Marketing

posted by Ted on March 22, 2012

Long tail marketing consists of niche marketing to a great many niches, selling small quantities of many products or services to each. Customers are targeted with “long tail keywords.” What does the term “long tail” refer to?

Chris Anderson popularized the “long tail” in an October 2004 Wired magazine article. Long tail keywords and niche marketing go together on the Internet. To see the long tail, get a spreadsheet of related keywords with their monthly searches, sort the keywords in decreasing order by searches and make a graph of the searches. You should find a very few keywords with many searches and a long tail of the distribution with few.

Most of us can successfully compete only for keywords in the tail of the distribution. The questions are: Which keywords in the tail? And compete how?

You can divide the keywords four search bands: the super, the high, the medium, and the low search keywords. The border between low and medium searches can be set to somewhere around 500 searches per month; between medium and high around 1000; and between high and super around 10,000.

Tracking Your SEO Campaign

posted by Ted on March 14, 2012

Monitoring the positions of your primary keyword on the search engines is crucial to the success of any  search optimization campaign. If you have done all the right things to improve your rankings, you will most likely see a continual upward climb. It’s important to know the precise moment that the upward climb seemingly reaches a plateau. When this happens, your search engine position campaign should move into more of a monitoring and enhancement stage.

In this phase, you will likely notice fluctuations in the rankings for your keywords. These are quite common and should not be of any concern. It’s the long-term changes that you must be on the lookout for and be prepared to act on immediately.

Google accounts for about 65% of the online searches done in the U.S.  Microsoft and Yahoo combine to account for another 30%.  For this reason, a good percentage of website owners and webmasters focus their efforts on what these three search engines are looking for specifically.

Getting Your Website on Google

posted by Ted on March 10, 2012

Getting your website indexed by the search engines is fairly simple, but getting the page up high on the search results page of Google can be much more difficult. This article covers three of the most important things to keep in mind when attempting to improve your overall rankings. So, that being said, how do you get your website on google?

Choosing Keywords

Basically, keywords are words or phrases that users choose to search for information or products online. If your goal is to utilize search engine optimization techniques as part of your marketing plan, it’s essential to make sure your website eventually shows up on the first page when people use words related to your business.  All search engines use some sort of a ranking system to choose the order of the result pages.  For example, Google puts great importance in a website’s relevance, therefore keyword choice and optimization for these keywords is essential.

Adding your most important keywords to the meta-tags for each page is a start.  It’s also important to put your keywords in strategic places within your site’s content. Make sure to write this content so that its legible for a visitor rather than the search engines. ‘Keyword stuffing’, or repeating your keywords over and over, is a thing of the past. What’s more, this is easily detectable by the search engines and could very well get your website banned.
