Checking Your Google Pagerank
PageRank is basically Google’s way of determining a website’s value based on a number of factors. One of the main factors they use is how many incoming links a website has. They interpret these links almost as a confidence vote. Simply put, a site that has more votes has more value from Google’s perspective.
As the internet was emerging, a large number of sites with industry-specific content were constantly being added. Users didn’t have a lot of tools to find them. Yahoo came along and made it a bit easier as they organized its directory listing by classifying each. This led to the use of keywords so they could determine the topic of each site. Other search engines soon followed the trend and began to use the meta tags in the coding of a website to determine the topic and relevance of it.
Getting Indexed Can Take Patience
Every website owner and webmaster has a single goal when releasing a new website or new pages on an existing one: trying to get all of the pages indexed in the major search engines as soon as possible. This can be quite a challenge for larger websites, but there are some simple yet effective techniques for getting this accomplished. However, it can take some time and patience.
Small websites, consisting of only a couple page pages, can easily be indexed in a very short period of time. All it takes is filling out the form on the main search engine submission pages, bookmarking the pages in some of the social networking sites, and building a handful of backlinks. Once these are done, the web pages and the backlinks can be pinged using some of the free online pingers and it should be good to go. For a larger website though, this same process likely has to be done for each page that the website owner wants to be indexed. It doesn’t look good to have hundreds of backlinks to show up overnight for a new website, so this has to be done over time. Finding credible link partners can also be an effective way to get the search engines to start crawling the website, but this can be a long process as well.

Ongoing Website Management
For almost any company with an online presence, their website is now a critical component of their business. It can directly support marketing, sales, customer service, distribution, and more. However, the content on most websites is getting older each and every day. If you want a truly effective website, it must be constantly updated with fresh and relevant content. A majority of small business owners either don’t have the time or resources to do it themselves or don’t have the cost of keeping an IT person on staff included in their budget.
Unfortunately this means that most small business websites don’t receive the ongoing maintenance and attention they require. Website management is basically the daily tasks required to make sure the website is always performing at its best. There are several things that should be included in an effective management strategy for a website. First of all, it’s incredibly important to make sure that the content on the website is not only high-quality, but is constantly updated and always current. Few things are more detrimental to the success of an online business than stale or outdated content. The website should be frequently updated with information about new products and services, special offers, useful articles and relevant news. This will give its visitors a good reason to return and keep the search engine crawlers busy checking out the new information.
Website Promotion Using SEO
When thinking about search engine optimization, concepts on the page are just a portion of it. To make your SEO campaign profitable, you also need to do link-building, which means placing links on other websites with your keyword in them.
Search engines count one-way links to your website as votes – the more votes you get, the better your site ranks. This is complicated slightly by the fact that some votes are significantly more weighted than others. For example, a link from a .gov domain will (all things being equal) be seen as more credible than a link from a .info domain, and will ultimately be of more benefit to your search engine placement. The trick is, therefore, to pick up as much link-weight as possible, and SEO experts are almost unanimous in their belief that this is best achieved through a natural mixture of both high and low credibility links.
Improve Your Brand with SEO
Traditional methods of marketing have been known to be quite expensive at times and not always as efficient as you would like them to be. As a result, many businesses have turned to internet marketing to fulfill their strategies. The Internet possesses so many features that marketers can take advantage of with very little cost. This means that your business may be at a disadvantage if you do not have an effective web presence.
Marketing on the internet has been proven to be vastly cheaper than offline methods such as advertising on television or even in your local newspaper. Its one thing to know how to add websites to google search, but making sure that your website is optimized for the search engines is critical to the success of your online endeavors. It is imperative to include various SEO tasks to your marketing strategies if you want to maximize the return on your online marketing efforts.
